2006: Aim High
Robot game and strategy
This year, our team has designed and built what we like to call an “omni-robot;” we built something that could shoot, store, and pickup balls. Our robot is able to shift between two speeds, a function that helped us in last year’s competition and is likely to help us during this year’s.
Our strategy this year is will involve strategic scoring and team communication. We understand the importance to score, but we realize that as soon as we do, the opposing team has a ball that they can use to score against us. Therefore, we have decided to make our balls count. That is, we will shoot at the center goal as much as possible and we will get our alliance to do the same. We also realize that the 40-second “defense” periods will be a deciding factor in the game because that gives a robot the opportunity to collect balls in the background while its alliance is blocking the opposing team. We plan to manage our time wisely and we plan to alternate “backbots” to fully benefit from the defensive period. Furthermore, we understand that communication is a huge part of playing the game. Like basketball, a sport which also involves shooting a ball into a hoop, the Aim High competition calls for strategy and cooperation. We plan on communicating closely with our team alliances long before we reach the playing field, and we hope this will help us succeed.
